About the Area
The city of Wakefield is home to the largest art gallery outside of London, The Hepworth, the stunning Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and the tallest church spire in Yorkshire. It is also the birthplace of renowned artists Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, is the centre of the Rhubarb Triangle, and its famous forced rhubarb has recently joined the hallowed ranks of protected foods, including champagne, feta cheese and parma ham.
Liquorice, horseracing and one of England’s greatest castles; just three things that have helped this medieval market town make its mark on history.
This area, centred around the town of Dewsbury, grew from the wool industry and although many of the mills have long-since disappeared, plenty of beautiful Victorian architecture remains. It's also kept its charm as a traditional market town and the weekly Wednesday market attracts visitors from all over the country.
